Granada’s Javi Marquez names son after Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric

The news was broken by Granada’s official Twitter account, which congratulated the former Espanyol, Mallorca and Elche man for his new addition, before revealing the unorthodox choice of name at the end of its post.

Speaking to Cadena COPE later on Thursday, Marquez explained: “My wife likes Modric very much.

“He’s also a great player and person. For me, this is an anecdote.

“If the name is accompanied by a great footballer, even better!”

Granada also congratulated Isaac Cuenca for conceiving a girl named Estrella – or 'star' in English.
