Jose Mourinho has revealed he would never have let Angel Di Maria, Javier Hernández or Danny Welbeck leave Manchester United.
The Portuguese manager arrived over the summer and set about reshaping the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal, signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
But there were also players that he still wished he had at his disposal that were sold by his Dutch predecessor.
“Manchester United sold players that I would never sell and bought players that I would never buy,” Mourinho told the BBC.
When pressed to name names, the 54-year-old, who has been suffering from a lack of striking options in recent weeks with the suspension of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and injury to Wayne Rooney, offered up a trio of players
"I would never have sold [Angel] Di Maria, Chicharito, Danny Welbeck – never, no chance," he said.
Di Maria only lasted a season at Old Trafford before he was sold to PSG in 2015 while Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez left for Bayer Leverkusen in the same year. Welbeck, who rose through the ranks of United’s youth system, was sold in 2014.
Mourinho did not reveal the players that he would not have bought.
