Jurgen Klopp's huge gamble almost made for a Liverpool nightmare, only for his Brazilian stars to come to the rescue, while Dele Alli continues to shine.

Alli a genuine superstar

Another game, another goal - and a pretty stupendous one at that. Dele Alli continues to demonstrate his extraordinary ability, and inspire Tottenham as they refuse to let their Premier League title dream die. Only four players have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Alli, whose tally of 16 from midfield is quite astonishing.
The fact that Alli has been directly involved in 14 goals in 13 Premier League games for Tottenham in 2017 alone demonstrates his remarkable ability to come to life where it really matters: in the final third. With 10 goals and four assists in the calendar year, the England midfielder has been instrumental in sparking Spurs' title push. At the age of just 20, Alli has an incredibly bright future ahead of him, both for club and country. He's a genuine superstar.

Klopp's major gamble almost a major disaster

It was almost so bad for Liverpool. Going into the match with a six-point lead over fifth-placed Arsenal having played two games more, it was another crucial clash for the Reds in the race for a top-four finish and Jurgen Klopp, somewhat inexplicably, took an almighty risk by fielding a seriously experimental line-up. Unbelievably, Klopp handed 17-year-old Ben Woodburn and 18-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold shock starts with his side needing victory.
Klopp essentially acknowledged his mistake by swiftly bringing on Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino at half-time, and the German was promptly bailed out by his two Brazilian stars, who each scored late on to give the Reds all three points. Liverpool fans breathed a big sigh of relief, but would surely have been absolutely furious if needless tinkering with a side only focused on the league had resulted in precious dropped points.

Ancelotti has got a good thing going

Bayern Munich hit four to claim a Der Klassiker victory over Borussia Dortmund, and in so doing Carlo Ancelotti's side cemented their place at the top of the Bundesliga table. The 4-1 win was pretty emphatic and the way everything flowed around Robert Lewandowski demonstrated just how perfectly the Italian has set his team up with the top players able to really perform at their best (take note, Jose Mourinho). Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, in particular, thrived playing just off the Pole.
This Bayern team may be built to win immediately with Dortmund possessing more young talent, but frankly when you have experienced stars playing at their best like Ancelotti does at the moment, it's hard to quibble. With a 10-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table, Ancelotti can afford to now focus on the upcoming Champions League tie against Real Madrid, where Bayern really do have to step things up.

Sterling still on the rise despite critics

Raheem Sterling is a lightening rod for abuse but even his harshest critics can't deny that he has taken his game up a level this season. He demonstrated this again versus Hull, where he created the second and third goals, the former being the result of great footwork and balance that took him past three defenders on the edge of the box.
The Pep Guardiola revolution hasn't quite been as advertised but one thing he has done is get through to Sterling, who now has six goals and six assists in the league. That's a decent return, albeit not an elite one, but as he continues to develop and learn Guardiola's system those numbers will only increase.

Pepe injury another huge blow for Real

As much as it was a bitter disappointment for Real Madrid to see their rivals Atletico equalise through Antoine Griezmann five minutes from time, the injury sustained by Pepe ahead of the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals will have been yet another blow for Zinedine Zidane.
Pepe, who gave Real the lead in the 52nd minute, reportedly fractured two ribs during the match and, as such, may well be out of the huge tie against Bayern. Zidane will be frustrated that his side could not beat rivals Atletico at home during such a crucial spell of the title race, but even more about the injury to one of his key players ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Alonso has become a key underrated star for Chelsea

No one has been as much of a beneficiary of Antonio Conte's system this season at Chelsea as Marcos Alonso, aside from N'Golo Kante, who can shine in any formation. The defender increased his tally of Premier League goals this season to five with a wonderful free-kick against Bournemouth, and his strike was crucial in separating the champions elect at a time when things were beginning to get a touch nervy.
Not only has Alonso managed to perform his defensive duties with distinction for Conte this season, but his enterprising runs and impeccable judgement going forward have enabled the Chelsea midfield to function as effectively as it has. The impressive goals tally aside, Alonso has distinguished himself with his consistency, never seemingly wavering from being solid at the back and a threat going forward. The 26-year-old continues to prove a real bargain for Chelsea.

Mignolet is suddenly a pretty decent goalkeeper

Aside from Jurgen Klopp finally deciding to get his best players out on the pitch, Liverpool also had goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to thank for preserving the visitors' lead as the Belgian pulled off a remarkable save to deny Saido Berahino his first goal in Stoke colours. It was one of a number of fine stops.
The goalkeeper has taken plenty of flak this season but the Belgian was in inspired form today as he pulled off a couple of brilliant saves and even looked assured at the majority of set-pieces. While Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, as the two super-subs, will understandably grab most of the attention, Mignolet was heroic at times.
