Kenny Miller signs 12-month contract to remain at Rangers

The 37-year-old striker, who is in his third spell at the Govan side, extended his stay until 2018 and looked forward to working further with recently appointed boss Pedro Caixinha.

Ahead of the last Old Firm game of the season against Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday, he told RangersTV: "I was delighted to get it signed and I'm looking forward to the last few games of the season and then building towards a better, more competitive year next year.

"With the new manager coming in over the past two months it was important that he came in and settled into the club, assessed his squad and fortunately enough he has made the right decision!"

Miller continued: "When a new manager comes in everybody's future is started to be thrown into doubt a wee bit, whether they have contracts or not.

"He let me know a few weeks back his thoughts and what he'd seen and then it was just a case of getting things tied up with Stewart Robertson (managing director) and Andrew Dickson (director of finance and administration).

"I was delighted when he let me know that he sees me as part of his squad next year and what his plans were so I'm over the moon.

"I was always confident that the manager would see the work that I have been doing every day in training, the commitment to the cause and since he's come in I think I've maintained a decent level of performance and consistency. I was always hopeful I would stay on."

Miller, who began his career with Hibernian, admitted he might not have envisaged such a long career.

The former Wolves, Celtic and Derby player said: "When I first started playing, this age I am now was probably a ripe old age in footballing terms and the lads who made it playing to this age would be few and far between.

"The last 10 years you have seen some really high profile players still playing at the highest possible level.

"I maybe didn't imagine I'd still be playing at this age but I hopefully still have a few years left yet.

"I do believe still playing now is a mind-set for me; I try and train as hard as I can, every single day.

"I don't like missing too many days; I think I have missed one day this season in terms of missing sessions.

"For me it's about keeping the mind focussed on the job at hand and I want to play as long as I can. As long as I feel I am still contributing like I have over the last few seasons then I'll be more than happy to carry on."
