Teenager Ben Woodburn usurped Michael Owen as Liverpool’s youngest goalscorer in a 2-0 win over Leeds at Anfield.
The hosts were given a decent examination by the Championship side, but in the end, two moments of class were enough to take them into their third consecutive League Cup semi-final.
Liverpool dominated possession in the first half, but created very little. Marco Silvestri was forced to make just one serious save, from Georginio Wijnaldum, while the best chance fell to Souleymane Doukara, whose shot was blocked by Simon Mignolet.
After the break, Leeds sensed a chance, pushing forward, and Kemar Roofe looked like he had put them ahead when he launched a beautiful curler from just outside the box, only for it to ram the inside of the post. Shortly afterwards, Wijnaldum hit the post, but then on 76 minutes, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool's 18-year-old right-back, arced a delicious cross to the near post, where Divock Origi poked home.
Just five minutes later, Origi and Mane turned Leeds' right side, the cross came in, Wijnaldum moved it on to Woodburn and the substitute - aged 17 years and 45 days - gleefully rammed into the roof of the net.

TALKING POINT

Is Divock Origi set for a run? With Philippe Coutinho set to miss at least five weeks, there's a space in Liverpool's forward line. Origi will fancy himself to take it, but Jurgen Klopp might prefer to insert another midfielder.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool): Another mature, composed display from the right-back, capped by a beautiful cross for Liverpool's opening goal. He looks a player.

3 - BIG CHANCE! It's been a scrappy start, but then Dallas muscles infield and lifts a delicious ball over the top into the path of Sacko, marauding through midfield, and he's in! Moreno can't get back, but Mignolet is out quickly and gets a leg to his shot.
12 - SAVE! Leeds carelessly cede possession deep inside their own half and Mane nips the ball inside to Ejaria, who clips a lovely ball into the middle for Wijnaldum. He shapes his body nicely too, opening up to feed a shot towards the top corner; Silvestri leaps high to his left to push away. The corner is dustbins and drains.
53 - POST! Roofe pressurises Alexander-Arnold, who skates around him beautifully, but Stewart tries to be clever too and loses the ball immediately afterwards. Then Roofe, just outside the box and left of centre, takes a touch, measures a curler, and thuds it against the inside of the post. Beautifully done, but not quite good enough.
72 - POST AGAIN! Liverpool do something! Wijnaldum finds himself some space on the right, haring onto Mane's lovely ball stroked into his path to ease a shot off the inside of the post. The rebound then came back so fast that it bypassed those already in the box
76 - GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Leeds United (Origi) Alexander-Arnold hollers for the ball on the right and when Can sends it his way he unfurls a delectable cross that whizzes to the near post, where Origi gambles and stabs home.
81 - GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Leeds United (Woodburn) Lovely down the right from Liverpool, Origi into Mane and running onto a backheeled return to cross low. Wijnaldum could shoot, but instead moves it on one more, whereupon Woodburn absolutely annihilates one into the roof of the net from five yards. He's 17!
