Wigan close gap on Burton to one point

Wigan closed the gap on Sky Bet League One leaders Burton to a single point with a 1-0 win against 10-man Rochdale that extended their unbeaten run to 18 matches.

Substitute Conor McAleny bundled home the winner midway through the second half at the DW Stadium after Rochdale striker Ian Henderson had been shown a straight red card in the 33rd minute for lashing out at Wigan defender Jason Pearce.

The Latics, who secured their third straight win, last tasted defeat in the league at home against Blackpool on December 12.

Burton will bid to regain their four-point advantage over closest rivals Wigan at play-off-chasing Millwall later on Monday.

Gillingham remain in fourth place after clinching their second win in seven games with a 1-0 success at Bury, courtesy of Luke Norris's solitary effort in the 27th minute.

Scunthorpe extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with their biggest win of the season, thrashing Swindon 6-0 at Glanford Park.

Conor Townsend (27) and Jordan Clarke (44) had Scunthorpe 2-0 up at the interval and two goals in five minutes soon after the restart from Hakeeb Adelakun (48) and Tom Hopper (52) put the Iron out of sight.

Paddy Madden added his 21st goal of the season in the 62nd minute and Hopper (76) headed his second as Scunthorpe kept their play-off hopes alive.
