Lionel Messi posts heartfelt message to basketball legend Kobe Bryant on Facebook

Lionel Messi has posted a tribute message to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, hailing him as "one of the greatest" and thanking him for helping to inspire his play.

Messi and Bryant are good friends having worked together on various commercials for Turkish Airlines over the years and the Barcelona star wanted to extend his best wishes after the LA Lakers hero announced his retirement.
The post from Messi appeared on the Argentine's Facebook page:
"It's always sad to hear when a sportsman is retiring. But @kobebryant will always be in the history books as one of the greatest," Messi wrote on the social-media platform.
"It was he who helped me become interested in basketball. All the best in the next stage of your life, Kobe."
Perhaps the most memorable double-act between Messi and Bryant was a video entitled 'Kobe v Messi: The Selfie Shootout' which got voted the 'Ad of the decade' by Youtube.
Another saw Messi and Bryant attempting to outdo each other while on a flight, impressing a kid with their amazing skills. What a partnership!
