Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to finish his career at Real Madrid after being offered a new contract which he's expected to sign this month, while Gareth Bale also looks likely to extend his deal at the Bernabeu.
Spain's AS reports that Ronaldo’s Real Madrid contract will officially be renewed this month, once player and club representatives have met in person.
He will remain on the same wages - €21 million a year - but with an extension until either 2020 or 2021, by which time the Portuguese superstar would be 36 years old.
Ronaldo is still on holiday after Euro 2016, the paper notes, but has discussed the issue over the phone with President Florentino Perez, and he and his agent Jorge Mendes will meet with Perez when Ronaldo is back training on August 10.
The only significant detail to be determined is apparently whether or not the Portugal captain’s new deal runs until 2020 or 2021 - but it could well be the latter, considering that Ronaldo said earlier this year that "I'm going to retire at Madrid when I'm over 40. I'm very happy here and am working hard to achieve this objective."
Wales forward Bale looks likely to be with Ronaldo at Real for a similar amount of time: AS claims that he will be offered a new deal this month which will increase his wages from €9 million to €10 million a year, and extend his stay until 2021. Bale's present contract expires in the summer of 2019.
Ronaldo isn’t expected to be called-up for Portugal’s friendly with Gibraltar at the end of August, prompting speculation that his new deal will be announced then, using the break as a chance for a presentation and ceremony to be held. (Additional reporting via Football Espana)
