Zlatan Ibrahimovic opens account as United rout Galatasaray in Sweden

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored after just four minutes as Manchester United put five past Galatasaray in Gothenburg.

The Swede came out to a rapturous ovation in front of his home fans on his United debut, with every touch cheered vociferously. And it only took him three minutes to open his account, the former PSG man meeting Valencia’s cross with an acrobatic scissor kick that looped off the turf and beyond Nestor Muslera.

Despite their lightning start, United found themselves trailing at half time thanks to goals from Sinan Gumus and Bruma, the latter curling an unstoppable shot past David de Gea and into the far corner.

Jose Mourinho’s half time talk seemed to do the trick and United were a different class after the break, a Wayne Rooney brace and two futher goals from Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata completing the rout.

Goals aplenty but defence still an issue. Jose Mourinho’s team certainly have goals aplenty on this showing but two poor defensive lapses saw them go behind at the break. A raft of second half substitutions will cloud the issue but it’s still difficult to know what his first choice back four will look like.

Antonio Valencia (Man Utd) Ibrahimovic and Rooney may have stolen the headlines but Valencia provided three assists in an excellent attacking performance from right back.
