MK Dons have renewed their interest in Chesterfield midfielder Sam Morsy, Press Association Sport understands.
Morsy, out of contract at the end of the season, was a transfer target for the Dons during the summer. The Milton Keynes club had an initial bid of £150,000 turned down by Chesterfield before returning with an improved deal, with clauses and add-ons, worth a potential £300,000. That was also rejected.
No fresh offer has been tabled but Dons boss Karl Robinson still wants the 24-year-old and is in the market for a midfielder this month after West Ham recalled Diego Poyet from his loan spell at stadium:mk.
However, with Morsy set to become a free agent in the summer, the Dons will be reluctant to match their previous offers and will try to get the former Port Vale player at a reduced price - knowing that this is Chesterfield's last chance to receive any sort of fee.
The Dons are not the only club interested and face competition from a couple of Championship clubs in the north.
League One clubs Wigan and Barnsley are also monitoring the situation but Morsy has made it clear he wants to play at Championship level.
