Alli wanted by PSG

PSG are determined to land Spurs midfielder Dele Alli in the summer as they continue their push to challenge for the Champions League. The French champions want to inject some fresh talent into their squad and believe Alli is the perfect addition. They would be prepared to spend £50 million and could easily improve his current wages of £60,000 a week. Real Madrid retain an interest in Alli but PSG feel comfortable they can sign him.
Paper Round's view: It seems highly unlikely that Spurs would let one of their most promising players leave, even for an outrageous profit on the money they paid MK Dons to sign him in the first place. Even with their new stadium it doesn't seem as if Spurs are going to be struggling for money any time soon. The only way Paper Round can see this happening is if Alli himself pushes for a move.

Arsenal begin contract talks with Cazorla and Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger faces a contract headache with a number of first team players preparing to enter the final 18 months of their contract aside from the key duo of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Whilst doubts remain over the future of those two players, Wenger has confirmed that talks have begun with Cazorla (who is currently out injured) and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Wenger also said the club will work on extending Olivier Giroud's contract.
Paper Round's view: Contract sagas are a pain and the sooner Arsenal can get their stars tied down to new deals the better. It's good for the player as it commits their future, it's good for the club as it's one less thing to worry about and it's good for the fans as it keeps them calm. Furthermore, if Ozil and Sanchez see other players renewing their contracts then perhaps they will follow suit.

Checkatrade Trophy may be scrapped

The head of the Football League has revealed that the Checkatrade Tropy could be scrapped after just one season. The tournament was introduced to replace the Football League trophy but saw Category A sides able to enter their U23 teams. This drew widespread criticism and has results in record low turn-outs. Shaun Harvey, the EFL Chief Executive, said that the original goal of the competition, which was youth development, has worked, but added that a reformed competition was likely when the review takes place in April.
Paper Round's view: There's no two ways about this, the Checkatrade Trophy has been a failure. From substituting goalkeepers in the first five minutes to playing teenagers and over 40-year-olds, it just hasn't worked. Football League clubs are rightly treating it with disdain, and facing harsh punishments because of it, whilst bigger clubs aren't really learning any more than they would by sending a player out on loan. It was the right idea, just terribly executed, and a reform is needed.

Jose took Chelsea on late night bus ride before Spurs defeat

Jose Mourinho abandoned regular pre-match preparation before the game against Spurs on New Year's Day last year, which left players and staff stunned. Chelsea's regular routine was to meet up in the evening in the team hotel, have a team meal and get an early night. However Mourinho announced there would be a coach ride just after midnight, meaning the players checked into their hotel in the early hours of the matchday, with the game scheduled for a 5:30pm kick-off.
Paper Round's view: Admittedly this was nearly two years ago, but it's still an interesting bit of information to come out from Mourinho's self-destruction at Chelsea. This story, as well as other little titbits in the piece, do demonstrate how Mourinho slowly lost control at the club. Something perhaps for Manchester United fans to be wary of if he stays for many years at Old Trafford.
