The embarrassing result left the Red Devils seventh in the Premier League, six points adrift of table-toppers Manchester City.
And the former Nou Camp favourite has urged United to focus on winning the EFL Cup and defending the FA Cup instead.

“The domestic competitions have to be everything for United and Mourinho this season,” Xavi told the Mirror.
“I don’t think this season they can win the Premier League. These competitions are their hope for a trophy.”

Jose's war games

Mourinho has lost 13 of his last 27 league games as a manager and is under intense pressure ahead of a meeting with old foe Pep Guardiola's City in the EFL Cup.
And Xavi says the former Real Madrid boss can appear to seek “war not football” during difficult periods, something he hopes will not be the case this time.
“Sometime when things don’t go well for Mourinho, he wants war not football – like when he was at Madrid – and I hope we don’t see that again in England.”

Pep will pip rivals to the post

Across Manchester, Guardiola is also going through something of a crisis after five games without a win.
But the Spanish World Cup winner is backing his former boss to turn things around and lead Manchester City to Premier League glory.
“Pep will not be worrying,” says Xavi.
“He will not have been happy with recent results but even with City dropping some points in the league, I still think under Pep they will be champions this season.”
