Brendan Rodgers is to make yet another signing using that apparently-infinite pool of transfer fee cash available to him, according to Monday's papers.

Liverpool to bid for Real Madrid's Cheryshev - The Daily Telegraph, citing reports in Spain, claims that Liverpool are to make a £14.9m bid to buy young Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev. "Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Cheryshev all summer and are in need of strengthening their midfield options following the sale of Raheem Sterling," reports the paper. Cheryshev has seven caps for Russia - which is six more than he has managed for the Real Madrid first XI in the three years since he joined. That sole appearance came in a cup match in the 2012-13 season.
Paper Round's view - The 24-year-old Russia international has yet to break into the Real Madrid side, and produced a hugely underwhelming four goals in 26 matches on loan at Villlarreal last season. (The year before was worse: at Sevilla on loan, he played just four times in La Liga). So we're really not sure where the £15m-odd figure has come from. At 24, we'd suggest that if he's not broken through yet, he probably never will.

Manchester United's Angel Di Maria

Di Maria in Qatar for medical - Angel Di Maria is in Qatar to undergo the medical that will make his move from Manchester United to PSG official, per The Mail. The Red Devils have agreed to a £44.4 million fee and Di Maria will make £170,000-per-week after taxes. Di Maria skipped United's preseason tour of the USA, but made his way to Qatar so he could complete his move to the Qatari-owned club.
Paper Round's view - It's good that this move is finally complete. Once Di Maria failed to show for the USA tour, it was clear he wanted out and Man United never fought particularly hard to keep him. It was best for both sides to separate and while the Red Devils probably could have commanded a slightly higher fee, they're better served by getting things done and reinvesting that money than they are haggling over a few more million.

Ashley Young - Manchester United

Man United offer Young new deal - Manchester United are trying to keep Ashley Young. The Star understand that the club have offered Young a new three-year contract that would keep him at the club until he is 33. Young's current contract expires after the season and this one would keep his pay around £120,000-per-week, but for another three years.
Paper Round's view - Young had a terrific season last year and showed that he can not just be effective, but very versatile. That's especially important under the ever-changing Louis van Gaal. That said, signing a player until he is 33 because of a good season is risky so offering him a raise on top of that would be unwise. This probably works out well for both sides, even if Young make hold off on signing it to try for a bit more money.

Roberto Soldado celebrates Tottenham goal

Spurs prepared to sell Soldado at big loss - Tottenham are ready to cut bait on Roberto Soldado. The Mirror claim that Spurs have begun talks with Villarreal over an £11m deal for the striker. Tottenham bought Soldado for £26m just two years ago, but he's scored just seven goals in two seasons. Villarreal had hoped to take Soldado on loan, but Spurs want to be rid of him so they're discussing a permanent deal now.
Paper Round's view - Taking a £15m loss after just two years sounds bad, but £11m isn't an insignificant amount of money for Spurs. If they kept him for another season and he had another awful season, they'd be lucky to get half of that so at this point, they're just trying to recoup what they can. Both the club and Soldado tried to make things work, but besides plenty of work from both sides, it never came together and it's time to move on.

Ciaran Clark (L) of Aston Villa celebrates after scoring against Leicester City (Reuters)

Villa will give Clark new contract to ward off West Brom - Aston Villa want to make sure that they don't lose Ciaran Clark to West Brom and The Birmingham Mail believe they will give the defender a new contract to do so. Clark flourished down the stretch last season and with current deal set to expire next summer, West Brom thought they had a good chance to snag him. Now Villa are going to give him a new contract and ensure he stays at Villa Park.
Paper Round's view - Clark's season changed when Tim Sherwood took over and now that the manager is set to return for another year, it makes no sense for him to leave now. If Villa are willing to give him a new contract and pay him like a starting defender, which he's expected to be, then Aston Villa is right where he should be.

Man City could lose top prospect - Several French clubs are pursuing Marcos 'Rony' Lopes and threatening to sign the Manchester City starlet, according to The Mail. Lopes was terrific on loan at Lille last season and now Lyon, Monaco and Marseille all want to sign him. The 19-year-old's contract expires after the season and he is skeptical that he will be given the chance to progress to the first team at City.
Paper Round's view - Man City have made a gigantic investment in their academy, but the next step is figuring out how to promote those great talents to the first team. They could be like Chelsea and keep a high bar for their first team, leading them to sell many of their best younger players for a profit to balance the books, but they have said they want to see their prospects move onto the first team. With a player like Lopes, who has proven himself at a high level, it's time to prove they can do it.
