Rounding up the major ins and outs, we look at how each team’s formation might have been altered by the events of the summer, and which players can expect to play a starring role as others fade into the background.
We start with Arsenal…
Can Arsenal win the Premier League this season?

PRE-SEASON FORM

Treble-winners! Okay, it’s not an achievement to rival Barcelona’s, but Arsenal can still be pleased with winning the Barclays Asia Trophy, the Emirates Cup and, most encouragingly, the Community Shield. A 1-0 win over Chelsea gave Arsene Wenger his first triumph over Jose Mourinho in 14 attempts and, possibly, set the tone for the season to come.

TRANSFER BUSINESS

PLAYERS IN: Petr Cech (Chelsea, £10m)
PLAYERS OUT: Wojciech Szczesny (Roma, loan); Abou Diaby (released); Carl Jenkinson (West Ham, loan); Lukas Podolski (Galatasaray, £1.8m); Yaya Sanogo (Ajax, loan)

TACTICAL TALKING POINTS

Arsenal’s problem is not how to accommodate new signings – Petr Cech goes straight into the starting XI as first-choice keeper – but how to satisfy all their star names when everyone is fit and available. Aaron Ramsey finished last season on the right wing but made no secret of the fact he wanted to be restored to the centre, where he lined up in the Community Shield with Santi Cazorla pushed wide.
When Alexis Sanchez returns to first-team selection following his delayed holiday due to the Copa America, he will surely play on the left. So unless Wenger is willing to drop Cazorla, which will not happen, Ramsey might have to move over again, displacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who scored a great goal at Wembley and seems in fine form.

Another option is using Ramsey in a more advanced central role and using Mesut Ozil and Sanchez on the wings, but Ozil has enjoyed himself in the No. 10 role in pre-season, saying after the Emirates Cup: “I am super happy with the No10 position and will confirm that trust.” The Germany star will have the team built around him, keeping Jack Wilshere out of the starting XI. Arsenal are not short of options in these positions.
The other big question is who will play up front. Unless Arsenal somehow do manage to sign Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud will share duties, swapping in and out depending on the opposition. But Walcott is in pole position having started against Chelsea and can expect to keep his place.

HOW THEY WILL LINE UP THIS SEASON

Arsenal play West Ham on the opening day of the season and if pre-season is anything to go by, Arsenal will line up in the following formation:
