Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands as ten-man Chelsea slumped to a 2-1 defeat at West Ham, with substitute Andy Carroll heading the winner.
The Chelsea manager was enraged by a sequence of decisions that went against his side, as they saw two goals ruled out and had Nemanja Matic sent off for two bookable offences.
Chelsea trailed to Mauro Zarate's opener, but drew level through Gary Cahill - only for Carroll to secure the points for West Ham with a fine header.
The defeat, Chelsea's fifth in the Premier League this season, leaves Mourinho's side marooned in 15th place as they slipped behind West Bromwich Albion, Swansea and Watford.

An incident-packed first half ended in farcical scenes for Chelsea as they were reduced to ten men when Matic earned a second yellow card for cynically bringing down Diafra Sakho. Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa were cautioned for protesting the dismissal of the Serb, while assistant first-team coach Silvinho Louro was sent to the stands.
This came after Kurt Zouma saw his goalbound header hacked off the line by Manuel Lanzini, with goalline technology showing that the majority, but not all, of the ball was over the line.
The drama overshadowed what had been a highly entertaining half of counter-attacking football, with both sides going back and forth with aggression.
The Hammers deservedly led through a Zarate drive from the edge of the area, after Diego Costa and Ramires failed to clear a corner-kick. Fabregas later had a goal disallowed for offside.
Mourinho did not emerge for the second half after being sent-off in the tunnel shortly after the half-time whistle. Gary Cahill brought the visitors level when he drilled home from close range after West Ham failed to clear a corner.
Despite a better performance in the second period Chelsea could not hold on for the point as Carroll’s planted header from an Aaron Cresswell cross condemned Mourinho’s men to a fifth defeat in their opening ten games.

KEY MOMENTS
17’: ZARATE GOAL – WEST HAM 1-0 CHELSEA - Mauro Zarate drills the Hammers ahead after Costa and Ramires flail widlly at the corner, it falls to Zarate on the edge of the area and his low strike beats Begovic for pace. Great technique.
35’: OFF THE LINE! Kurt Zouma’s header almost crosses the line but somehow it's cleared by a mixture of Adrian and Lanzini. Replays from goal-line technology shows a tiny section of the ball that had not crossed the line.
39’: LANZINI MISS! Should be 2-0. Lanzini is sent clear by Payet's flick but he dinks his effort over Begovic. Massive chance for the Hammers, will they live to regret it?
42’: FABREGAS OFFSIDE GOAL! Chelsea launch a lightning counter attack and Willian feeds Cesc Fabregas onto his right foot, he finishes low into the bottom corner but the assistant has flagged for offside. That was close.

44’: NEMANJA MATIC RED CARD! Nemanja Matic has received a second yellow card, this half has turned into a nightmare for Chelsea. He completely blocks off Diafra Sakho on the touchline and the assistant referee directs the referee to award a second yellow and a red for the Chelsea midfielder.
56’: CAHILL GOAL! WEST HAM 1-1 CHELSEA - An equaliser for the Blues, an emphatic finish from Gary Cahill after indecision in the West Ham box from the corner kick. Adrian stays on his line then rushes out but Cahill makes no mistake in lashing it home.
79’: CARROLL GOAL - WEST HAM 2-1 CHELSEA - Andy Carroll heads West Ham back into the lead. Finally a cross finds its mark. Creswell hangs one high and Carroll leaps and guides it beyond Begovic. Super header and a sliding celebration from the England forward.

KEY STATS
With only 11 points after 10 matches, Chelsea set a new club record for fewest points at this stage of a Premier League season (13 in 1992/93, 1993/94 and 2000/01).
West Ham United are the second team in the English top flight to beat four of the 'Big 5' teams - Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Man United - before the end of the year after Manchester United achieved this on 9 December 2012.
TALKING POINT
We need to talk about Jose Mourinho. There was a 15-minute period where it seemed everything that could go wrong did: a Kurt Zouma header was cleared off the line, millimetres from going over, Cesc Fabregas had a goal ruled out for offside, before Nemanja Matic was sent off for a second bookable offence and coach Silvinho Louro was sent to the stands for protesting. The Chelsea manager failed to appear for the second half, eventually showing up in the stands. A farcical afternoon for last season's champions and a microcosm of their current campaign as they lurched from crisis to crisis within minutes. The second half was an improvement but they struggled again for creativity.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Dimitri Payet (West Ham): Another high quality performance from arguably the signing of the summer. His silky touches, his forward driving and no lack of substance beyond skill underpinned West Ham's win this afternoon.
