Negredo is set to have a medical on Tuesday after being withdrawn from Valencia's training camp in the Netherlands before flying to Teesside.
Valencia were apparently keen to rid themselves of the Spain forward's 130,000 Euros a week wage packet.
The former Manchester City forward - who scored nine goals in 32 matches for City between 2013-15 - discussed terms with Middlesbrough, Valencia and his agent at the Mestalla before a fee was finally agreed between Valencia owner Peter Lim and Boro chairman Steve Gibson.
Boro will apparently pay a fee of 10 miillion Euros at the end of the season if Negredo, 30, is successful at the Riverside.
Boro have already landed Antonio Barragan, Victor Valdes, Viktor Fischer, Bernardo Espinosa, Marten de Roon, Jordan McGhee and Gaston Ramirez during the close season.
The newly promoted Premier League club are apparently also close to signing Borussia Dortmuned defender Neven Subotic.
