Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe named a starting lineup to face Liverpool that cost ten times less than the players he opted to keep on the bench.
The Cherries’ first-choice XI for Sunday's Premier League clash cost the club a paltry £3.9 million, featuring loanee Jack Wilshere and a host of players plucked from the lower reaches of the football league system.
But the seven substitutes cost a combined £39m, ten times as much, with Tyrone Mings, Jordan Ibe and Benik Afobe among the big-money signings kept in reserve.
And that’s not where the remarkable figures end, with the Bournemouth starting XI costing a remarkable £167.1m less than Sunday’s visitors to the Vitality Stadium.
