Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football Ranieri spoke of previous tension at the club which he said was at least temporarily resolved by his historic Premier League victory with the club, last year.
He said: "Maybe it was someone behind me. I had a little problem the year before and we won the title. Maybe this year, when we lose, these people push a little more."
However, contrary to reports at the time which suggested key players such as Jamie Vardy and Kasper Schmeichel could have been instrumental in the Italian's sacking, Ranieri said he did not believe this was true.
He said, emphatically: "I can't believe my players killed me. No, no, no."
Well-liked by fans of the club and beyond, Ranieri remained gracious, refusing to name who he believed may have been responsible for his shock departure.
He said: "I don't want to say who it is. I am a loyal man. What I had to say, I said face to face."
