Gylfi Sigurdsson struck home a wonderful free-kick to hold Manchester United to yet another home draw in the Premier League.
Rooney grabbed his 252nd Manchester United goal when Marcus Rashford won a penalty by taking an early tumble, anticipating a Lukasz Fabianski collision that only slightly materialised.
United's defensive injury crisis worsened when Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly were both forced off, with a game against Celta Vigo looming for Thursday.
Rooney gave away a pointless foul on the edge of the box with a little over 10 minutes remaining allowing Sigurdsson to equalise with a wonderful free kick.
United stay in fifth and Swansea stay in 17th after a draw that does neither side much good.

TALKING POINT

Was it a penalty? Rashford started to take a fall before the collision with Fabianksi actually took place. Fabianski had started to bring away his arms before he met Rashford's trailing leg. It looked like a dive, and Fabianski was unlucky to make contact - in truth, Rashford should probably have been booked, although he could contend he needed to take evasive action.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea City): Swansea probed and defended astutely, and will feel a sense ofi injustice that they went behind to a dodgy penalty. Sigurdsson was enduring a minor goal drought, so will be grateful to come back to form with such an excellent free kick.
