Conte not afraid of the sack

We start with The Telegraph who are one of many papers to carry quotes from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte. The Italian insists he is not afraid of the sack and feels he is under no pressure at the moment despite the team's indifferent form. Reports suggest Conte could be close to getting fired, but he has said that the air at the club is different to in the past.
Paper Round's view: Moving quickly on from Conte's sly little dig at Jose Mourinho, and the number of headline writers trying to pathetically use 'The Different One' and these quotes from Conte are pretty interesting. He's made it pretty clear that he feels he is in no danger and with the backing of the fans he's put the board in a tricky position if they do decide to get rid of him.

Toure could make MLS switch

Meanwhile, The Star has an exclusive that Yaya Toure could join Manchester City's sister club New York City FC. Toure is seen as the perfect replacement for the retiring Andrea Pirlo and he has slipped down the pecking order at City under Pep Guardiola.
Paper Round's view: This would be an excellent move for all parties. City can still give Toure the send-off that such a legend deserves but Guardiola will no longer have to deal with Toure's agent Dimitri Seluk. Toure gets a chance to become a real leader in a new team and a star player while New York get an experienced playmaker to replace Pirlo. Yes, MLS is tending towards younger designated player signings, but Toure still has plenty to offer.

Silva could face diving ban

In The Express it is reported that Bernardo SIlva will find out on Monday whether he will become the first Premier League player to be banned for diving. Silva won a penalty against Burnley on Saturday leaving Clarets manager Sean Dyche enraged. Silva maintains there was contact from Burnley keeper Nick Pope.
Paper Round's view: There was contact, but it was minimal. It would be harsh to ban Silva in Paper Round's opinion given that if he hadn't gone down he would have been chastised for being too honest. However, after the first ban for a Premier League player we may see a cut down in such incidents.

Stoke have faith in Hughes

We end with The Telegraph who report that Stoke City still have faith in manager Mark Hughes and are keen not to sack him. Hughes has been defiant that the club's current situation, where they sit above the relegation zone, is not a crisis. The board are going to be patient for now but the next four games are going to be critical.
Paper Round's view: Peter Coates is an exceedingly sensible chairman and to stick with Hughes for now seems very sensible. True, he and the club have made mistakes in the market, but the players at the club are good enough to push up the table and pull away from the bottom three.
