Arsenal and Liverpool to clash over Belotti

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to battle it out for the signature of Torino striker Andrea Belotti, according to The Sun.
Arsene Wenger is still seeking reinforcements after signing Lucas Perez, with Olivier Giroud's place in the side in doubt and concerns over the long-term fitness of Danny Welbeck. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old offers Klopp another pacey alternative in the final third and could be bought for around £12.5million.
Paper Round's view: This would make sense for Arsenal, and the striker confirmed his class with a hat-trick against Bologna at the end of August and his subsequent call-up to the Italy squad. However, Liverpool already have a host of striking options - including Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings so their interest is only likely to continue should they continue to have injury problems in their forward line come January.

Tony Pulis snubbed by West Brom owner

West Brom manager Tony Pulis was snubbed by club owner Guochuan Lai, according to the Sun. The report says Pulis is set for showdown talks after he had a public war of words with club chairman John Williams over transfer targets in the aftermath of the summer window closing. With Pulis wanting to know what direction the club is going in and West Brom's new owners not naming him in their press release, West Brom are reaching a serious point of conflict.

Paper Round's view: There's only one clear message to everyone at West Brom - sort it out. Imminent short-term survival in the Premier League is at stake and infighting will only rapidly make the situation worse. While there are perfectly legitimate questions over Pulis' ambitions beyond taking the club to safety every year, harmony in the short-term and cool-headed decisions give the club every chance of surviving a relegation battle at this point in time.

Arsenal prioritise Ozil and Sanchez contracts

Arsenal have prioritised the new deals of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, according to the Daily Mail. After the club spent £80 million on new signings in the summer, Arsene Wenger and Co have turned their attention to nailing down their star duo with bumper deals after negotiations have been drawn out. Currently, Ozil is on £140,000-a-week and Sanchez is on £130,000-a-week, with those figures set to rise during negotiations.

Paper Round's view: They're paid the big bucks for a reason, and Arsenal's intent to bring this to an end is only a good thing. Players of this ilk need to know they're valued, and prioritisng it publicly as the next order of business goes a long way to getting that done.

Diego Simeone agrees to contract reduction

Diego Simeone has agreed to a contract reduction at Atletico Madrid, according to the Sun. The report says the boss of the La Liga club has reduced his contract by two years, which now in ends in 2018. It leaves the Argentine in the box seat for a position in the Premier League, as speculation continues to gather momentum over Arsene Wenger's plans to stay at Arsenal.

Paper Round's view: A move that provides optimism for Arsenal fans seeking a break from Arsene Wenger's maintained but not overly ambitious level of success. But assuming that Simeone would just walk into the gig is a whole other issue entirely - who knows how the landscape will look in two years? Other clubs may be able to lure the Atletico boss, as Arsenal's continued obsession with bank balance over trophies may come back to bite them.
