Chelsea set for £250m spree

We start with The Mail who report that Chelsea are set to give manager Antonio Conte the green light over a £250 million spending spree. The champions have signed Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata but Conte still wants more. The report says that Conte wants to sign Alex Sandro, Antonio Candreva, Virgil van Dijk and Fernando Llorente.
Paper Round's view: It's all well and good that Chelsea are going to add some much needed numbers to their squad and give Conte backing but does anyone else feel as if these signings are a little underwhelming? Furthermore none of them seem to really address the issue of another central midfielder being needed should Nemanja Matic leave.

Sanchez to take pay cut to join City

We move to The Independent who report that Alexis Sanchez is so keen to join Manchester City that he would accept a lower contract than the one on offer from Arsenal in order to move. The report says that Sanchez is desperate for a move that would allow him to win trophies and would hence reject an offer from Arsenal even if it were to reach £300,000 a week.
Paper Round's view: This report does demonstrate that football isn't necessarily all about money. However have Pep Guardiola's City shown they're going to be serial title winners? Not yet...

Liverpool demand £30m for Sakho

We end with two Liverpool stories in The Mirror with the first reporting that the Reds have told Crystal Palace that they will not sanction another loan for Mamadou Sakho and want £30 million for the French defender.
Paper Round's view: It sounds ridiculous to say but in this market, and based on his performances last season, Sakho is almost worth £30 million. He's probably better than most Liverpool defenders but clearly isn't welcome at Anfield. Even at £30 million he could be a steal for someone.

Watford and Hull battling for Markovic

And our second story is that Watford and Hull are battling for Reds' winger Lazar Markovic. Jurgen Klopp has decided to take a £13 million hit on Markovic and is willing to listen to bids of £8 million.
Paper Round's view: Markovic is a decent player, he just hasn't had any stability since joining Liverpool. Moving to Watford under Marco Silva seems like the perfect move. Don't be surprised to see him do well there.
