Griezmann deal hits a snag

The big exclusive this evening from the Sun is that Antoine Griezmann's move to Manchester United is in 'serious jeopardy'. The report says that Griezmann is concerned that United may miss out on Champions League football and his representatives have been in contact to raise this issue, with Chelsea reportedly monitoring the situation. This comes following quotes from both the player and his agent. The former saying he's sick of transfer speculation and sees himself at Atletico, whilst adding that his idol is David Beckham. The latter saying that United's interest is known but mentioning the fact that they may not be in the Champions League.
Paper Round's view: The simplest solution here may be for United to just to win the Europa League, then everyone will be happy. Well, that is except for Griezmann. Of course most of his answers are fairly stock but he does sound genuinely fed up and his quotes don't exactly sound like he's begging for United to come sign him. This one will probably rumble on until he signs or the transfer window shuts.

Sanchez ready to stay another year but sees free Chelsea switch as an option

Now we go to the Mirror, who lead on Alexis Sanchez. The latest report says that the Chilean forward is ready to stay with Arsenal for another year, and perhaps even commit to a new contract, but he is keen for the club to show sufficient ambition in the transfer market. He feels the club wouldn't sell him to rivals Chelsea but is prepared to see out the rest of his contract in order to stay in London.
Paper Round's view: Arsenal are playing a dangerous game with Sanchez and it's hard to see how this ends well for them. Perhaps the best bet is to call Sanchez's bluff and make him sit for one more year. Either he'll be persuaded by their actions over the summer or he'll have to deal with not playing for a season, something that he probably won't adjust well to.

Newcastle join race for Defoe

And just like a game of transfer tennis we head back to the Sun as they report that Newcastle have joined Bournemouth and West Ham in the race to sign Jermain Defoe. Despite playing for arch-rivals Sunderland the report says that Rafa Benitez is keen on signing Defoe as he bids to strengthen the club ahead of a prospective return to the Premier League.
Paper Round's view: Given his record over the past few seasons it's hard to imagine why any team in the bottom half of the table wouldn't be interested in signing Defoe. It would be interesting to see if he would be open to a move to Sunderland's rivals, or prefer a move back to one of his former clubs. One thing is for certain though; he's certainly not going to be short on suitors.

Stoke ready to sell Imbula

Stoke City are ready to sell their record signing Giannelli Imbula in the summer according to the Telegraph. The midfielder has struggled to adapt to life in England and the player admitted that his career is not on track. A loan move is possible but a permanent transfer of around £10 million, a loss of around £8 million is also mooted.
Paper Round's view: This is a real shame as Imbula's first few matches at Stoke were really promising, he looked like a player who could really dominate midfields. Hopefully he can get the right move and get his career back on an upward curve.
