Manchester United want Victor Lindelof and Alvaro Morata, Harry Kane will captain England, and Diego Costa may be too expensive for AC Milan.

United line up £35m Lindelof

Manchester United will sign Benfica central defender Victor Lindelof after his international duties with Sweden finish on Tuesday. Lindelof will fly to Manchester on Wednesday to complete a medical and sign for the Premier League side. Lindelof is ready to 'fight for his place' and will cost United around £35m.
Paper Round's view: Manchester United desperately need central defenders to replace Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, who are both substandard and injury-prone. With the cost of central defenders rocketing - see Virgil van Dijk being rated at £60m - it seems United will go further down the age range in order to cut costs. This may not be the only central defender United go for in the transfer window, as Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo are the unconvincing other options.

United continue spending with Alvaro Morata

Manchester United are expected to sign Alvaro Morata, Real Madrid's 24-year-old striker, next week. United are reported to have agreed terms with the player, fresh from winning the Champions League last weekend. United will replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic with Morata, but relationships are strained between the two clubs after the tension over a failed transfer involving David de Gea.
Paper Round's view: Morata is somewhat unproven at the top level, as he was only inconsitently involved with Real Madrid's campaign. However, 20 goals in 43 games for Real, and 27 in 93 for Juventus when still a youngster, is still a promising return. United will need more than him if they are to compete with the top four in the Premier League next season.

AC Milan consider Costa wage demands

Diego Costa's agent Jorge Mendes met with AC Milan representatives after the Portuguese striker was told by his boss, Antonio Costa, that he was no longer wanted at the club. However, Costa's £200,000-a-week demands are causing reluctance for AC Milan, who are unsure if they will get value for such high wages. With other permanent options, Milan would prefer to sign Andrea Belotti or Nikola Kalinic permanently.

Paper Round's view: At 28, Costa likely has a few years left at the top of his game, but he is proven to be disruptive. He returned from the European Championships out of shape for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, and threw a strop over a proposed move to China under Conte. It is not that he doesn't have the talent to match the wage demands, but there are cheaper options for Milan who will likely cause much less hassle.

Kane to captain England

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will captain England for their match against Scotland. The squad recently trained with the army, and his display of leadership qualities has earned him the nod for this match, but not necessarily permanent.
Southgate said: “I’ve spoken before about developing more leaders in the group.
“That’s been key and was evident this week with the different things we’ve done. Harry’s not been with us up to this point. His mentality is excellent. He has a very good view of the game. He’s keen to lead."
Paper Round's view: The nominal captaincy shouldn't matter a great deal for an international squad. The players, as Southgate hints above, should have more than just a single leader. Kane, though, is a superb striker and has avoided the scandals that hit other Premier League English footballers in their youth. His talent and growing experience at the higher level make him a worthy candidate.
