Mourinho - Rooney can move to China

Jose Mourinho has said that if Wayne Rooney wants to leave in the summer to move to China then he will not stand in the way of his captain, who became Manchester United's record scorer on Saturday with his 250th strike. However Mourinho also made it clear that he feels that Rooney still has a lot to offer his team.
Paper Round's view: Mourinho's line is quite interesting. Previously with Rooney the line has been that he will never be sold because he is such an integral part of the club. Mourinho's approach, whilst still saying the right things about wanting him to stay, goes to show Rooney's diminishing importance to the team. However, after bailing them out on Saturday does he still have more to offer?

Pochettino - Lay off Guardiola

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his sympathy and support for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. The two teams played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon but it didn't ease the pressure on Guardiola. Speaking after the game Pochettino said that he believes to put together a team with a philosophy takes time and it is much trickier at City than at Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
Paper Round's view: Don't tell anyone but Pochettino has actually been very sensible. Guardiola is clearly an excellent manager but this is a City team in need of a revamp. Did they mess up in the transfer market? Yes. Should some of the blame lie with Guardiola? Yes. However that does not automatically mean he's a terrible manager. Give him time and let's see what he can achieve.

Toure - Sterling was too honest

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has said that he believes team-mate Raheem Sterling was too honest in the incident involving Kyle Walker that could have seen City awarded a penalty. Sterling stayed on his feet following a push from Walker and got a shot away but it wasn't as effective had he not been pushed. Toure said that Sterling was too honest and he wants to always try and stay on his feet, whereas a more experienced player might have taken a tumble. He also expressed his support for video technology.
Paper Round's view: Toure isn't exactly saying that Sterling should have dived, given that there was contact, but it's still a fine line. Ultimately the answer to this particular problem comes in the end of these Toure quotes where he mentions video technology. This would have made everyone's lives on Saturday easier and cleared it all up very quickly.

Carroll says Payet situation has galvanised West Ham

West Ham striker Andy Carroll has said that the situation with the striking Dimitri Payet has galvanised the players and they are determined not to let it ruin their season. Carroll scored twice during the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, another victory without Payet, and afterwards spoke of the upbeat mentality within the squad at the moment despite the furore off the field.
Paper Round's view: Given how many people were writing off West Ham's season following the Payet news it's impressive how the players and the club have responded. Whatever happens now with Payet, whether he leaves or stays, the players have demonstrated that no one is bigger than the club, and that is an excellent thing.
