The prolific Romelu Lukaku scored for the ninth consecutive home game this season as Everton extended their Goodison winning run with a 3-1 win over Burnley.
It was actually the visitors, seeking a rare double over the Toffees, who had the better of the early exchanges – Ross Barkley heading off the line and Joel Robles denying Sam Vokes with a decent save.
Ronald Koeman’s half time talk seemed to do the trick, Phil Jagielka nodding home his third in as many appearances just after the break before Robles gave Burnley a lifeline, needlessly bringing down Vokes who converted from the spot.
The equaliser seemed to galvanise Everton into action and from that moment, they were the better side. Barkley, who enjoyed one of his better outings after a difficult week, saw his shot deflected in by Ben Mee before Lukaku completed the job in emphatic fashion.
Victory for Everton means that they win eight consecutive top flight home matches for the first time since January to April 1990 and climb above Manchester United to fifth in the table. Burnley, yet to win away this season, remain 14th.

TALKING POINT

How will Everton keep hold of Lukaku? He became the first player to score in eight consecutive PL home matches of his club since Wayne Rooney did it for Manchester United from December 2009. European football in the shape of the Europa League, may not be quite enough to match his ambitions.
