Tottenham have finally entered the transfer market to land Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez from Ajax for a reported club record €40 million (£36.6m).

The 21-year-old’s arrival is welcome in north London, with Spurs previously the only side in the Premier League without a fresh face in the summer window.
Sanchez technically becomes Tottenham’s second recruit after goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga arrived from Southampton earlier on Wednesday, but the Argentine stopper is likely to be on the fringes.
His six-year deal is subject to a work permit, but no late hiccups are expected.
The fee, which could rise to €42m (£38.8m) with add-ons, eclipses the £30m they splashed on Moussa Sissoko in 2016, with Spurs fans now praying Sanchez makes a bigger impact than the former Newcastle man.
Sanchez will compete with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen for a starting spot in defence, while Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted to reconsider a back three.

He was voted Ajax’s Player of the Year last season and featured in the Europa League final defeat to Manchester United in May.
Spurs face Burnley at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, bidding to end a run of just one win in their last 10 games at the national stadium.
