Tottenham defender Danny Rose has apologised for comments he made in an interview with a British newspaper ahead of the new Premier League season.
Speaking to The Sun on Thursday, the England international made comments that implied a willingness to leave the club for the sake of a better contract elsewhere, and on the club's signing policy over the ongoing transfer window.
Rose said he had "one big contract left" and "time is running out to win trophies."
Speaking of his current contract with the North London club, the 27-year-old added: "I know my worth and I will make sure I get what I am worth."
Rose's future with the club, who he also implored to sign some "well-known" players, has recently been subject to speculation. The comments were seen by some as a move by Rose to give him greater leverage in any contractual negotiations, though he was forced to back down on Friday.
In a statement released by agents Base Soccer retweeted by Spurs, Rose said: "Having had time to consider my actions, I acknowledge now that the timing and manner of what I said was ill-judged.
"My words were not meant to offend and for that I would like to apologise to the chairman, manager, my team-mates and the fans. I'd also like to wish the lads good luck ahead of Sunday's game against Newcastle."
