Milan target Aguero in £80m January move

AC Milan want Manchester City's striker, Sergio Aguero. They had planned a £80m transfer at the end of August, anticipating that Arsenal would have sold Alexis Sanchez to Pep Guardiola's City. However, as the move for Sanchez collapsed, so did the bid for Aguero. A new £80m bid is expected in January for the 29-year-old Argentine international, assuming that Sanchez finally makes his move.

Paper Round's view: Aguero is still recovering from his recent car crash, and may not be back for a month or so. By that time, City should have perfected their use of Gabriel Jesus as their main, sole striker in the first team. If they were to sign Sanchez then it is hard to see just where Aguero would fit in the line-up, but any move may depend on how their Champions League and Premier League campaigns are going.

Wenger considers Martial move

Arsene Wenger is lining up a replacement for Sanchez, who could leave in January or at the end of the season. His attention is on Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, who may be receptive to a bid. Martial is not in Jose Mourinho's first-choice XI, but this season he has scored and provided assists in his infrequent appearances from the bench and in cup competitions. Starting from the wing, Wenger thinks that chance to play through the middle could attract him to London.

Papaer Round's view: Martial appears to be happy with Mourinho and United for now, and he has shown a huge improvement in his form this season. Playing through the middle might appeal to him, too, but there is one obstacle about a move to Arsenal. Martial is clearly able to join other sides who will pay more and challenge more regularly for trophies more often and more effectively than Arsenal could - he has no need to stoop if he chooses to leave.

Conte to leave at end of season

There is growing speculation that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will leave England at the end of the season. Conte won the Premier League last season, and his new team is coming together in Europe this season, too. AC Milan and Inter Milan have been suggested amongst possible destinations after he said in a radio interview that he was planning an eventual return to his homeland.
Papaer Round's view: Conte has clashed with Chelsea regularly over the summer, over transfers and his treatment of Diego Costa. Costa has gone now, and a late flurry of transfer activity has given him an enhanced squad for his second season, but it appears as if both parties would not be averse to him return to Italy. Chelsea have shown many times before that a manager is not the key part in their success under Roman Abramovich.

FA warned of dementia risk in 1995

The FA were warned about the risk of dementia to players from heading footballs in 1995. Baroness Elaine Murphy wrote to the FA in 1995 following a study that suggested more investigation into the risk posed to players of dementia from heading the ball throughout their career. Jeff Astle, Eric Harrison, Jimmy Hill and Danny Blanchflower have all been cited as players who may have suffered as a result of their playing days.
Papaer Round's view: It would be wrong and impossible to speculate over the actions and motives of the FA two decades ago over this matter. However, the current FA has to deal with this problem - we are only days since Kevin Doyle retired due to medical advice - and this is the FA that repeatedly mishandled the Mark Sampson scandals. There is little reason for optimism to look to them for leadership on the matter.
