Manolo Gabbiadini scored twice as Southampton claimed a 2-2 draw with Newcastle.
Isaac Hayden scored his first Premier League goal when he seized on a block from Maya Yoshida to take advantage of Fraser Forster's poor position.
Forster had earlier struggled to clear a ball under pressure from Ayoze Perez, and Southampton struggled to put away their chances. Shane Long had not scored since February, and his ineffectiveness was shared by most of his side.
In the second half, Gabbiadini did brilliantly to equalise with a solo run across the box, but two minutes later and six minutes into the second half, Perez put Newcastle back in front.
Newcastle were lucky not to have DeAndre Yedlin sent off for a second bookable offence, but Gabbiadini grabbed a second from the spot after Long won a penalty to earn the Saints a point, a result that leaves both teams in mid-table.

TALKING POINT

Should DeAndre Yedlin have seen red? Mauricio Pellegrino can feel aggrieved. Southampton should have been playing 10 men for the final third of the game, when Ledlin clattered Nathan Redmond when already on a yellow card. Kevin Friend took an inexplicable decision to let him off, giving Newcastle a full allocation for the rest of the game.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Manolo Gabbiadini (Southampton): Pellegrino threw cautious to the wind by playing with two strikers, and it paid off. Long's tireless running was responsible for winning the equalising penalty, but Gabbiadini's coolness in front of goal was rewarded by scoring both goals for Southampton. A spark of confidence could be what the Italian striker needs to rediscover the form of last season.
