Tottenham Hotspur have anounced the signing of centre-back Davinson Sanchez from Ajax, their first transfer in of the window.
So far Spurs have offloaded Kyle Walker, Nabil Bentaleb, Clinton N'Jie and Federico Fazio but fans had become concerned by the lack of signings.
The club have moved to rectify that with their first bit of business as Sanchez, 21, has signed a six-year contract with the club pending medical and work permit.
Reports earlier on Friday had suggested a fee that could potentially rise to £42 million had been agreed between the two clubs but Ajax's statement says the initial fee is €40m (£36.57m) and could rise to €42m (£38.38m).
Either way it is Spurs' new club-record deal, beating the £30 million that was paid for both Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko.
Sanchez, who becomes the first Colombian to play for Spurs, told the club's website:
"I would like to thank the coach, management, players and fans of Ajax. It is a great move for me to come here to develop my career.
“I am very excited to be signing for such a famous club as Tottenham Hotspur. I am looking forward to working with Mauricio Pochettino and the players and meeting everyone there."
