Newcastle's have almost reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of defender David Rozehnal, according to a source at the French club.
The Czech Republic international will be a welcome addition to one of the leakiest defences in the Premiership, and is likely to cost the Tyneside club £2.5 million.
"The deal is close to being completed," said a source close to PSG sporting director Alain Roche. "There has been contact between the clubs and a fee between three and four million euros has been agreed.
"It is not quite there but there aren't any problems expected from PSG and we already know that Rozenhal would be very happy with a move to the Premiership with Newcastle United."
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has already signed Mark Viduka and is expected to complete the purchase of Joey Barton this week.
He also revealed he is chasing Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim, who is also attracting Chelsea's interest.
