Having seen fellow loanees Jordan Pickford and Will Keane return to parent clubs Sunderland and Manchester United respectively, there were understandable concerns that the impressive 22-year-old could follow suit.
Reach's loan at Deepdale came to an end after Saturday's 2-1 win against Rotherham, but Preston have struck a deal with the Sky Bet Championship leaders for the winger to remain in Lancashire.
"It is fantastic from Middlesbrough to allow Adam to stay with us," manager Simon Grayson said. "He has done really well and it is a big coup for us.
"He played a lot of football for Middlesbrough last season and he is a good kid, who wants to learn and wants to stay here and play football.
"Other players might have gone back and wanted to be part of a potential promotion-winning team, but I am delighted he wants to stay and I am sure that his overall vision will be for Middlesbrough to get promoted and for us to have a successful season as well."
