Best memory of the year
The four minutes after half-time in the title decider between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, when Atletico could have scored three times before Diego Godin’s title-winning equaliser. It was an astonishing demonstration of the human spirit – and the quality of Diego Simeone’s team talks – at a time when an entire season’s work was in danger of being wasted.
Sportsperson of the year
Phil Taylor for overcoming the biggest crisis of his career at the age of 53. It would have finished men half his age. He is a miracle of mental strength.
Hope for 2015
That Sir Alex Ferguson and Roy Keane have a televised sit-down, Clough/Revie style.
