Sepp Blatter ready to learn the verdict of his CAS appeal

CAS announced on Friday that it was ready to reveal its decision on the former FIFA president.

The 80-year-old Swiss, who served as FIFA chief from 1998 to 2015, contested the ban imposed for an alleged "disloyal payment" made to then UEFA president Michel Platini in 2011.

Both men were originally banned for eight years by the sport's world governing body last December, but that was reduced to six years by a FIFA appeals panel in February, before Platini had his ban cut by a further two years by CAS in May.

The result of Blatter's appeal will be made public at 1400 GMT (1500 local time) on Monday.

Blatter and Platini have both protested their innocence throughout, claiming the payment was made for consultancy work the Frenchman had carried out for Blatter between 1998 and 2002, and that they had a "gentleman's agreement" on when the balance was to be settled.

Blatter was elected for a fifth term as president of FIFA in May 2015 despite a corruption scandal engulfing the governing body but agreed to stand down a few days later.

Following the decision of FIFA's ethics committee to impose a ban, Blatter described himself as "a punching ball".

He appealed to CAS in March, with the announcement reading: "J oseph S Blatter has filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision issued by the FIFA Appeal Committee on February 16, 2016.

"In his appeal to the CAS, Mr Blatter seeks the annulment of the decision taken by the FIFA appeal committee in which he was suspended from all football-related activities at national and international level for six years."
