"Recently we've been conceding less, we're more organised," said the Milan boss. "We've refound our defensive solidity and organisation, but we've also improved our defensive strategy all over the pitch, with our forwards making huge sacrifices for the team.
"We've improved defensively whilst maintaining our attacking play - that's the way to obtain good results."
Cafu is in the squad to face a Sampdoria side whose push for a European spot has faltered in recent weeks with three losses in five games.
But after a 2-1 loss in Genoa earlier in the season, Ancelotti is wary of the threat Samp pose his side.
"Sampdoria are a very good side and they proved that the last time we played them," said the former Parma and Juve boss. "They're having an up-and-down season, but they remain a dangerous side, especially on the counter-attack."
Fabio Bazzani sat out training on Friday with the knee injury that forced him to miss Samp's midweek Coppa Italia tie, but should start up front alongside Francesco Flachi, while Andrea Gasbarroni is poised to return to the starting line-up after recovering from injury.
But former Milan midfielder Sam Dalla Bona misses out through suspension.
