Inter beat Messina 3-0 on Saturday in a game they completely dominated to close within two points of second-placed Milan. All three goals came within a ten-minute spell in the first half, with Santiago Solari and Obafemi Martins both on target.
There is nothing better than a convincing 3-0 win to prepare for a Champions' League quarter-final.
Inter were just too strong for a Messina side who will have to raise their level of play if they want to preserve their Serie A status by the end of the season.
Despite Adriano's absence, Inter looked the part going forward, creating numerous chances through the omnipresent Marcelo Pizarro and target man Julio Cruz.
Solari opened the score with a clever lob which caught Marco Storari unaware. Martins got the second minutes later, after a good move involving Cruz and Kily Gonzalez.
The latter put in a cross which the Nigerian headed home from a few yards. It wasn't over though, Solari getting his second soon after from a tap-in.
Messina never looked dangerous and keeper Fransesco Toldo barely had anything to do all night. Nevertheless three points taken for Inter, who have boosted their confidence before their trip to Spain on Tuesday.
