Several Serie A clubs are known to be interested in the former Torino full-back, including Juventus, Napoli and Milan.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have practically agreed terms with the player for a January switch.
It is expected to be a loan deal – perhaps paid – with an obligation to buy either at the end of this season or the next term.
Over the next few weeks, the two clubs will whittle down the details, but Darmian has already expressed great enthusiasm for the idea.
Signed from Torino for €20m just over a year ago, the Italy international struggled with injuries and has not been used regularly by Jose Mourinho.
Darmian impressed at Euro 2016, as he can play on either wing and is even effective in a three-man defence as a makeshift centre-back.
