Inter’s Ivan Perisic scored a last-gasp equaliser to deny Silvio Berlusconi the perfect parting gift in what is likely to be his final derby as AC Milan owner.
Suso’s majestic double for Milan appeared to be sending them up to second in Serie A, but Perisic had the last laugh, poking home from close range to steal a point for Inter.
A magnificent tifo was displayed ahead of kick-off, with Milan fans showing their appreciation for Berlusconi’s 30 years as owner.
And the former Prime Minister of Italy had reason to celebrate when Suso fired Milan ahead against the run of play.
Antonio Candreva’s spectacular effort levelled matters for Inter – but only for a couple of minutes as Suso put Milan ahead again.
The drama didn’t end there though, and Perisic ensured it was honours even in a pulsating encounter.

TALKING POINT

Relief for Stefano Pioli - It has been a terrible season so far for Inter. Pioli became their ninth manager since Jose Mourinho left in 2010, replacing Frank de Boer - who was in charge for just 85 days. You could see how much the equaliser meant to the new man at the helm, and Inter looked like a totally different beast on the whole under Pioli, dominating large chunks of the match despite going behind twice. A lot of work to do, but a promising start.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Suso (AC Milan): It was so close to a winning performance from Suso. His two goals were magnificently taken and he looked dangerous every time he took the ball forward.

PLAYER RATINGS

Milan: Donnarumma 5; Abate 6, Paletta 6, Gomez 6, De Sciglio 6; Kucka 6, Locatelli 7, Bonaventura 8; Suso 8, Bacca 7, Niang 6. Subs: Mati Fernandez 5, Lapadula 6, Pasalic 6.
Inter: Handanovic 6; D'Ambrosio 7, Miranda 6, Medel 5, Ansaldi 5; Brozovic 6, Kondogbia 7, J.Mario 7; Candreva 7, Icardi 6, Perisic 7. Subs: Murillo 6, Nagatomo6, Jovetic 5.

KEY MOMENTS

15’ - SAVE! A cross just evades Icardi but it bobbles into Brozovic's path who can have a clear attempt on goal. It's poor though as it's straight at the 'keeper and Donnarumma gets down to collect the ball.
25’ - JUST WIDE! D'Ambrosio down the right for Inter and this time the cross is great. Perisic meets it around 10 yards out but heads wide! What a chance for the 'visitors'. Moments later, Inter win a corner... which Kondogbia flicks JUST past the post.
39’ - WHAT A CHANCE! Candreva is 25 yards out and his shot is poor, though it heads straight to Icardi six yards out, but he can't sort his feet out and fails to get a shot away.
42’ - GOAL! Milan 1-0 Inter (Suso) It's a fast counter from Milan and Bonaventura picks out Suso on the right-hand side of the box. He takes a touch before curling a beauty into the far corner. All that came after such a good chance for Milan. It was 4 on 2 in Milan's favour and Suso played it over to Bacca. Instead of taking it into the box he cut onto his right and shot straight at Handanovic, but it doesn't matter!
53’ - GOAL! Milan 1-1 Inter (Candreva) What a goal! Locatelli goes down under Perisic's challenge but it's no foul and Inter take a quick throw. It falls to Candreva who carries the ball towards the centre of the pitch before unleashing an unstoppable strike beyond Donnarumma. What a way to get your first goal for the club!
58’ - GOAL! Milan 2-1 Inter (Suso) Just as I say Inter are on top. Milan break with Bacca down the right, he picks out Suso who jinks past Miranda before placing his effort into the far corner beyond Handanovic's grasp. What a game this is!
67’ - INCHES WIDE! It's a lovely dink from Candreva into Perisic who volleys first time, but his effort sails narrowly wide of the post.
90+1’ - GOAL! Milan 2-2 Inter (Perisic) Would you believe it. It's a last-ditch equaliser for Inter and it comes from a corner. It's headed on by Murillo and it's heading wide but Perisic is there to poke home and claim a valuable point for Inter!
