Francesco Totti has revealed that he plans to “stay in football” with Roma once his playing career ends.
Totti was interviewed by Italian comic Topolino, which will commemorate the Roma forward’s 40th birthday next week by dedicating an issue to his alter-ego Papertotti – a character based on Disney’s Donald Duck universe.
“Certainly I’ll have the pleasure to share this achievement with my family and close friends,” he said.
“After all, my first 40 years wouldn’t be so special without them! After that, I hope to celebrate some success with my teammates. The Giallorossi, after all, have always been my sweet.
“For sure, I’ll stay in football. I have an agreement with the club that will allow me to not detach myself totally from the pitch.
“I’m getting closer to that moment with a hint of curiosity, but I still have the desire to be totally focused on my mission: to honour Roma’s jersey until the last minute of my career.”
Recently Totti has had to settle for a role as substitute under Luciano Spalletti but he still clearly has a big role to play in the team, scoring a dramatic late winner from the penalty spot against Sampdoria recently.
