Sevilla president Pepe Castro hits back at Sergio Ramos

Sevilla president Pepe Castro has stepped into the war of words escalating between Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and his former club.

Ramos, who left Sevilla for the Bernabeu in 2005, provoked an angry reaction from locals on a recent return to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The 30-year-old scored in the 3-3 Copa del Rey draw on January 12 as Real Madrid extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 40 games - a Spanish record - and celebrated by cupping his ears in front of home fans.

He then scored an own goal - and was subjected to a chorus of boos all night - at the same stadium three days later as that run came crashing to a halt when Sevilla sealed a dramatic 2-1 LaLiga victory.

Ramos told reporters over the weekend: "I'm shocked the Sevilla president doesn't publicly oppose their violent fans."

Castro, though, has told Ramos to worry about his own club and says the Spain defender has "burnt his bridges" with Sevilla.

"He is an extraordinary player, who left a great club and is now at Real Madrid," Castro is quoted as saying to Marca.

"But he has to dedicate himself to play at his club, and not to advise a president of a former club how he should behave."

Castro added: "There were insults towards Sergio, but he has burnt his bridges."
