It’s the day after the night before and football fans are still wondering how Barcelona staged one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history against PSG.

But for some – the answer is clear: the Catalan giants benefitted from some generous refereeing decisions en route to a remarkably 6-1 victory.
Here, we take a look at some of the key moments in last night’s match at the Nou Camp and see whether Deniz Aytekin was right.
Agree or disagree with any of the decisions? Let us know in the comments below.

Offside!

Luis Suarez’s goal got the ball rolling after just three minutes, and while he appeared to be in an offside position – it was not the touch of a Barcelona player which gifted him the opener.
The linesman got this decision right.

Handball!

Initially it was Barcelona and Neymar crying out for a penalty in the PSG box which wasn’t given, and just two minutes later Javier Mascherano slid to block a cross and the ball clearly hit his arm.
In this scenario, you would argue it’s a penalty for both or for neither.

Penalty #1

It was a perfect start to the second half as Thomas Meunier was deemed to have brought down Neymar in the box. The PSG defender was actually stumbling over himself and his head appeared to knock the Brazilian off his feet. It’s unfortunate for Meunier – but in this instance there was contact and you would argue it’s the right decision…

No Penalty!

Suarez received a yellow in the 67th minute after going down for simulation under, well, no pressure from Marco Verratti. The Uruguayan left his leg dangling and then threw himself to the ground in a bid to win a penalty. The referee didn’t buy it and was correct to card the forward for simulation. But some 20 minutes later, Suarez got his way…

Penalty #2

In the 90th minute Suarez went down under minimal pressure from Marquinhos and was awarded the spot-kick. Neymar dispatched it and that ultimately set up the grand finale.
It’s harsh, and quite clear that Suarez was looking for the foul. Under the pressure cooker that was the Nou Camp, the referee got this one wrong as he bought the Suarez dive. The flinging of his arms was reminiscent of one Steven Gerrard in the 2005 final, and we all know how that one panned out…

Five minutes?!

There was also some uproar with there being five minutes of stoppage time added on – a crucial amount given Sergi Roberto’s winner in the 95th minute.
Stoppage time is wholly on the referee and a rule of thumb sees 30 seconds applied for each goal and each substitution, although if a player dawdles or a celebration is prolonged, then of course a referee can apply more time.
Three second-half goals and five substitutions before the 90th minute would make four minutes alone – while any time-wasting or injuries would have added to that amount. Add the Neymar penalty in the 9st minute and the 93rd-minute change for PSG, and the game rightfully went into five minutes of added time and beyond.
