Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has confirmed that he has suffered ligament damage.

The Belgium international was helped from the field after picking up what appeared to be a serious injury in Saturday’s 4-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane.
And the centre-back confirmed on Tuesday that he has suffered ankle ligament damage, which is likely to rule him out for months rather than weeks.
No official timescale has been placed on the length of Vertonghen’s absence.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino’s initial prognosis was that the injury was ‘very bad’ and the Argentinean coach is expected to reveal more about the injury in his press conference on Thursday.
The news come as a blow to Tottenham, who have surged up the table during a seven-game winning run that has seen just three goals conceded.
Vertonghen’s injury could see the north London side return to a back-four defence after their recent tactical shift, or the 29-year-old could be replaced by one of Kevin Wimmer or Ben Davies – whom both have experience at left-sided centre-back and left-back.
Spurs’ next game is against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
