Paris St Germain c oach Unai Emery praised the way his team stuck to their task to beat Angers 2-0 at the Parc des Princes and keep up the pressure at the top of Ligue 1.
The home side took the lead on 34 minutes when Lucas Moura's corner picked out compatriot Thiago Silva at the near post to head beyond Mathieu Michel.
PSG opened a two-goal cushion after Hatem Ben Arfa was fouled by Romain Thomas inside the area and Edinson Cavani converted the penalty for his 100th goal for the club before uncovering a tribute to the victims of the Chapecoense plane crash.
The result leaves the reigning champions one point behind Nice, with Monaco a further two points adrift in third.
Emery said to a press conference: " It was an important game to win all the three points for the classification in the table.
"We played against a tough team, who were very compact defensively, but we did a solid game, playing seriously.
"Ligue 1 is a competitive league with PSG and other good teams, like Lyon, Monaco and Saint Etienne, so the championship is very strong today.
"I think first of our own way and if we do our job, then it pays."
Successive defeats for Angers leaves them rooted firmly in mid-table.
Manager Stephane Moulin said afterwards: "We wanted more than crumbs here, we wanted a piece of crouton, but we did not get it.
"We were not far from our best, but it was necessary that they were below their best for us to have a bit of success."
Moulin believes PSG will again be title contenders in 2017.
He added: " I think they will be more and more difficult to play against. When we approach the month of May, they will show their superiority."
