Liverpool defender Jose Enrique had a day of mixed messages as just hours after being left out of the club's European squad he was included in the 21 senior players registered for Premier League duty.
On Tuesday the Spaniard, whose deadline day move to West Brom never materialised, pledged to fight for his place despite having been told by Brendan Rodgers he did not feature in his plans.
Enrique had been training with fellow outcasts Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini, both whom have recently left the club on loan to AC Milan and Sunderland on permanent deals.
An indication of how far the 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order came when Europa League squad lists were released and he was not included.
However, a matter of hours later the former Newcastle left-back's name appeared on the Premier League list of players.
Rodgers has started the season with £3.5million summer signing from Charlton Joe Gomez on the left of defence despite him being a right-sided player.
That has left £12million Europa League winner Alberto Moreno, signed from Sevilla just over 12 months ago, on the bench with Enrique even further away from the squad.
