The New Zealand international, signed for £3million from Leicester in a big to boost Leeds' previously anaemic front line, capped the win with a fine 25-yard strike as part of highly impressive display.
United now have a week to prepare for their season-opener against relegated Burnley, and Wood reckons they are in good shape.
"I think we are ready - we've progressed well," he said. "The first few games were all about fitness and then we had two games in Austria and came back home against a tough Everton side.
"I'm very positive. Everything seems to have gone very well for five weeks or so now. We were all learning different things but now we have all pulled together we're playing well as a team."
Wood's pre-season has been hampered by some niggling injuries but the 23-year-old is back to full fitness now.
"I'm feeling good, getting there week by week; I missed a few games and things like that but I'm in good shape," he added.
"I think I'm getting there. I am still finding my feet, finding out how the other players play but things like that take time and games but we're getting there and looking well."
Leeds' win over Everton also featured a fine goal from midfielder Alex Mowatt, one of the club's numerous academy graduates who now make up a large part of the squad.
"It's a great team, a very young team with a bit of experience at the back," Wood said of his new group. "We are looking forward. It's good to see the youth and energy in the team, but we need that experience and that's what Sol Bamba and the players at the back are going to bring."
Wood's goal was the perfect fillip ahead of the new season, but, having proved his worth in the second tier before, he has no doubts about what he can do at that level.
"It's nice to score, but I wasn't worried because ultimately I know I can score goals in this league and I know I can do that come the start of the season," he said.
Manager Uwe Rosler was mightily impressed by his marquee summer signing.
"Chris Wood now is growing into a player who plays 40-plus games a season," he said.
"It's a big ask. Wherever he's been he's always been an important part of the squad, but for us he's an integral part of the spine of the team. That's his next task because I know he will score goals. It was a pleasure to watch him."
Leeds are on Monday expected to confirm Bamba as their captain for the new season while also wrapping up a deal for Brentford winger Stuart Dallas.
