Podolski is currently the tournament's second top scorer with three goals, and has impressed many with his finishing skills in a lethal partnership with Miroslav Klose which has netted eight times in total.
The award - which more than a million fans have voted for - is based on four criteria; skill, exciting play, fair play and role model behaviour
There was no place for England's Wayne Rooney or Franck Ribéry of France, who is the potential candidate who will dispute the final on Sunday.
