Kvyat was involved in a heavy crash during qualifying at the Red Bull Ring when the suspension failed on his car between the final two corners after he ran over the raised yellow kerbing designed to prevent drivers abusing track limits.
The incident sent Kvyat hurtling across the track before colliding with the barrier at the start of the pitlane entry, breaking off the front wing, from where he continued on into the gravel on the opposite side of the circuit.
Due to the damage sustained, the team has since been forced to break parc ferme conditions in order to work on the car, replacing the survival cell and gearbox.
Working on the survival cell in particular requires Kvyat, who was due to start from 18th on the grid, to now automatically start from the pitlane.
