Kay is best known for his work on entertainment and reality programmes like All Star Family Fortunes and ITV's diving show Splash!, as well as hosting his own shows on BBC Radio 1 and Radio X.
He has experience fronting sporting programmes from his time as the presenter of Channel 4's The American Football Show, which aired on Saturday mornings after the station took over the rights to broadcast the NFL in the UK.
Kay replaces Andy Jaye as the frontman on Channel 5, which utilised a remote studio set-up for its first season as the rights holder for FE's UK coverage, and will attend every race.
Channel 5's coverage will be complemented by the world feed, for which three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti returns for a fourth season as part of FE's commentary team.
Lead commentator Jack Nicholls returns for the full season after missing several races in 2016/17 due to clashes with his BBC Formula 1 commitments, while Bob Varsha and Nicki Shields complete the world feed's four-person set-up.
"Formula E remains an incredible spectacle within the world of motorsport", said Kay.
"I can't wait to get trackside and present all the electric action, right from the heart of these amazing cities."
The opening race weekend of the 2017/18 FE season takes place over December 1-2, the first time the electric single-seater series begins with a double-header.
Channel 5's coverage of the season opener is not expected to be broadcast live.
