Reigning Olympic champion David Wise was on top form to clinch victory in the latest World Cup freestyle skiing halfpipe competition at Copper Mountain.
After missing the opening event in Cardrona, New Zealand back in September, Wise announced his return to the World Cup circuit with a bang on Friday.
The American laid down his best effort on run one, opening with a score of 92.80 before following that with 26.00 and 71.80 on his subsequent runs.
But it was still enough to take top spot ahead of a trio of Canadians with Noah Bowman second on 91.00 and Simon D'Artois completing the podium on 89.20. Mike Riddle just missed out on a medal with 88.20.
The result moves Wise up to third in the ski halfpipe standings on 100 points, 20 behind D'Artois and 22 behind fellow American Alex Ferreira who failed to make the final on Friday.
Meanwhile Olympic silver medallist Marie Martinod took victory in the women's competition, comfortably beating her rivals with a score of 83.00 from her opening run.
American Devin Logan was her closest challenger with a best score of 79.60 while China's Zhang Kexin was third on 77.60.
It moves France's Martinod top of the ski halfpipe World Cup standings on 160 points, ahead of Canada's Cassie Sharpe (129) and American's Annalisa Drew (100).
